The trout season starts on Monday 22nd March hopefully the river will be in a good condition for the hardy anglers who like to get out for some early Brown trout fishing. There can be hatches of flies with Large Dark Olive’s making an appearance in early season.

Typical patterns that will take fish early season include

Partridge and Orange, Snipe and Purple, Greenwell’s Glory all typical North Country spider patterns. Nymph patterns are well worth ago as well.

For the dry fly enthusiast patterns that work well include,

Grey Duster, Greenwell’s Glory, Pheasant Tail, Dark Olive,

Don't Trust The Forecasters.......

 

The success of our angling trips is very often weather-dependent, hence anglers often use the weather forecast to decide whether or not to go angling. Unfortunately the truth of the matter is that reality is often very different from predictions. The forecaster often implies that we would be better off staying at home and tying flies when, at Witton Castle Lakes, conditions are very suitable for fishing.
